COTTONWOOD - Obi Osuji, a Red Bluff High School junior, pulled off double victories in the 200 and 400 meters Friday at the Northern Section CIF Track and Field Championships.

The wins earn Osuji two spots in the CIF State Championships at Cerritos College in Norwalk this Friday and Saturday. His times were 50.31 in the 400 and 22.43 in the 200.

Los Molinos senior Lacy Oliver came into the finals with the top discus throw and made good on her quest for state with a winning toss of 123 feet.

Also claiming a section title and a trip to state was the Red Bluff girls' 4-by-100 relay team of Cassie Dutton, Stephanie Teague, Shaneen Garth and Molly Stinson, winning at 50.36.

Stinson, a junior, also placed second in the 200 meters (26.08) behind Kelli Enos of Willows, who won the 100 as well.

Red Bluff senior Marci Paulissen finished second in the high jump behind Becky Rankin of Las Plumas, who cleared 5'6". Paulissen was among a group of four at 5'2", while Amber Baker of Red Bluff took sixth.

Dale Mendenhall, another RB senior, put the shot 49 feet 3/4 inches for third place, while Kyle May of Corning took fifth (48"3/4"). Mendenhall came in sixth in the discus (143'6") as well.

Corning's Rachel Darrow, a senior, also took third in the shot (36'10-3/4") and was fifth in the discus (107'10").

Senior Darci Burton of Corning placed in two events as well, taking fourth in the triple jump (34'4") and fifth in the 100 hurdles (15.53).

The Corning girls' 4-by-400 team took fourth (4:15.46) while the Cardinal boys' mile relay team was fifth (3:34.78).

Leti Gomez of Corning crossed fifth in the 400.

Eddie Bianchi, a senior from Los Molinos, placed fifth in the 300 intermediate hurdles (41.91), one step ahead of Corning's Travis Lynch in sixth (42.34).

Oscar Nero, a senior from Corning, came across the line sixth in the 100 hurdles (16.32).
